1963 Vespa Sportique

Vespa news banner

Evoking the spirit of 1960s Mod culture, Vespas have left an indelible mark as the stars of iconic British films like Quadrophenia, symbolizing teenage rebellion and carefree youth. With around two million Vespas sold in 1960 alone, and sales skyrocketing to four million by 1970, they became the ultimate fashion statement for any self-respecting Mod.

In Italy, Vespas hold a special place as symbols of adventure, romance, and regeneration, providing affordable and reliable transport for generations. Our museum proudly houses a 1963 Vespa Sportique once owned by Princess Margaret, permanently on display at our Backbarrow attraction. Its sleek, wasp-like silhouette and curved bodywork epitomise the classic Vespa design.
