1992 Chevrolet Corvette ZR-1
This car is an example of the fourth-generation ZR-1 Corvette, nicknamed 'King of the Hill' for its exceptional performance. Designed in collaboration with Lotus, then owned by GM, it featured the LT5 5.7-liter DOHC V8 engine, engineered in the UK and produced in Oklahoma by Mercury Marine. The LT5 was the first production engine to deactivate four cylinders for better fuel economy, producing 380bhp, later increased to over 400bhp in 1993 with modifications. Lotus also helped design the suspension, braking, and steering, giving the ZR-1 unmatched technical finesse. Despite its acclaim, the ZR-1 was not a sales success for Chevrolet, with only 6,939 units sold between 1990-1995. The high price of $58,995, over $27,000 more than the L98 Corvette, and minimal styling changes led to limited public interest.

Interesting Fact
Our 1992 example was sold in California to its one stateside owner and imported into the UK in February 2004. This is one of only 6 ZR-1 Corvettes believed to reside in the UK, and one of only 15 to be finished in the attractive shade of Quasar Blue metallic for the 1992 production year. Further noteworthy is the fact this Corvette is fitted with a six-speed manual transmission, the ZF manual gearbox particular to the ZR-1, again firming up its reputation, and GM's intent, on making this generation a more driver-focussed version of the model.
