Our Awesome Autumn gathering!
The Lakeland Motor Museum’s latest ‘Autumn Drive and Ride In’ event saw a bumper turnout over the weekend - helped by glorious weather – with some impressive classic and vintage vehicles on show.
The museum revved things up for the event with a large showcase in the outdoor exhibition area, where visitors had the chance to mingle with many fellow enthusiasts and see a wide range of vehicles covering the last century of motoring - from the mid-1920s Humber right up to the present day, with a McLaren.
As well as British vehicles, there was a good contingent of American muscle - one of which was chosen to receive the Awesome Autumn trophy. The flawless bright red paint and V8 exhaust note really made the 1938 Ford 'Flatside' pick-up truck stand out.
Vehicle owner Stephen Park from Kendal explained it had been found as a left hand drive restoration project, with a partially fitted transit diesel engine. Its restoration included altering it to right hand drive, fitting a Mustang V8 and C4 automatic gearbox, above the front 'clip' from a Crown Victoria police car, giving modern suspension, steering and brakes. At the rear, a Ford explorer rear axle completed the upgrade.
Curator of the Lakeland Motor Museum, Chris Lowe, says, “It was another great turnout for our latest Classic Drive and Ride In Day, which always have a strong appeal for anyone who wants the chance to see some classic vehicles and enjoy a fun day out. Special congratulations go to Stephen Park and his fantastic 1938 Ford 'Flatside' pick-up truck!
“Many of the visitors also took the opportunity to explore the Lakeland Motor Museum’s remarkable collection of classic and vintage vehicles, thousands of items of automobilia and the Bluebird Exhibition – a tribute to the exploits of the speed kings Donald and Malcolm Campbell.”
The next ‘Drive and Ride In’ event is Lakeland Motor Museum’s Boxing Day rally, in addition to the monthly first Saturday morning meeting of Lakeland Historic Car Club.
Anyone living in the LA/CA postcode can also apply for a local residents card which entitles them to discounted entry to the Museum throughout the year, including 50% winter discount from now until 1 May 2025.
